Artisanal and small-scale gold (ASG) miner's ore processing is the Planet’s largest anthropogenic source of deadly mercury pollution documented in 2021 by the University of Oxford earth scientist to stay airborne up to one year.
We propose to prototype a 80 tonnes per day (t.p.d.) mercury free ore and tailings leaching center 1,200 meters high up in the Amazon Andes in the Portovelo-Zaruma mining district Ecuador.

According to Adriana Gonçalves et al 2015 publication, there are 240 (two hundred-forty) gold mines and 87 (eighty-seven) whole-ore mercury amalgamation Chilean processing centers operating in the Portovelo-Zaruma mining district Ecuador today.
Sixty-five APROPLASMIN* Members ("Members") process ore and tailings and/or rent their facilities/equipment to the ~10,000 local ASG miners and the ~40,000 neighboring miners all largely having undiagnosed mercury poisoning who transport their ore and tailings for processing.
These processing centers are lined up along one-square mile on the Calera and Amarillo riverbanks.
Collectively they are responsible for the annual discharge of 1.9 million tonnes of deadly toxic tailings surface sludge waste directly into the Calera and Amarillo rivers polluting Peru’s Puyango-Tumbes river basin.
This deadly toxic pollutant is fluvially dispersed zigzagging throughout the Amazon polluting the rivers and shores while providing mobility for mercury and facilitating the anaerobic production of the deadliest neurotoxin Methylmercury, and with unknown biomagnification effects all to empty into the Pacific Ocean.
A survey** accomplished by the Swedish Environmental System estimated discharges of mercury 40 Kg per year in the River Siete and 160 Kg per year in the River Calera.
We propose to convert one of APROPLASMIN Members sixty-five whole ore mercury-amalgamation Chilean processing centers using a plant-based extract to sustainably leach gold from ore and unmanageable toxic tailings ponds for profit.
